The Mount Bromo Sunrise & Volcano Tour in Indonesia is certainly one of the most awesome travel experiences that you can experience anywhere in the world.
Climbing Mount Bromo crater in Java is not very difficult and you can look directly into a steaming volcano with the unpleasant smell of sulfur!
When we visited Mount Bromo in Indonesia for the first time, we took an independent road trip through East Java, which included Mount Bromo and Kawah Ijen Crater, as well as some epic waterfalls, before ending in Bali.
Our last visit was a little different as we used a tourist package to Mount Bromo. This time we booked a day trip from Surabaya to Mount Bromo with a jeep ride around the volcano. We liked that even superior.
Regardless of whether you use a tour package or not, Mount Bromo volcano is a “must-see” point on your trip through Asia, and you can even travel from Bali to Mount Bromo without much effort.
In this guide you will learn how to get to Mount Bromo, where to stay, entrance fees, security and everything you need to know before you go!
Where Is The Bromo?
Mount Bromo is an active volcanic crater in East Java, Indonesia.
It is located in the middle the cities of Malang, Surabaya and Probolinggo and can be visited from any of these places.
Bromo Mountain is part of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, where you can see a famous group of 5 volcanoes (including Bromo) and the highest mountain of Java Semeru, blowing smoke in the background.
Needless to say, these volcanoes are an incredible sight!
How to Visit Mount Bromo
The easiest way to visit Bromo is to fly to Malang or Surabaya and book a day trip or a multi-day excursion from there. If you are in Bali, you can also do it in the opposite direction, starting by land from Bali, and then ending in Malang or Surabaya.
Bali offers direct flights to and from Malang (MLG) and Surabaya (SUB) daily, and a one-way trip can cost as little. You can buy flights to Malang or Surabaya on Skyscanner.
Once you have arrived in Malang or Surabaya, it is easy to book a day trip to Bromo, or you can arrange everything yourself if you prefer. A full-day excursion is enough to see all the highlights of the park.
We usually like to do things without a tour, but this is a matter where I think that tour is definitely a good idea. Mt Bromo is a bucket list item and you want to do it justice.
On a tour, you can do additional activities, such as a jeep ride around the volcano, and it really doesn’t cost much more if you add it all up, and you don’t have to worry about buses, etc.
